Imagine waking up in a coffin, not from a pleasant slumber, but from the chilling embrace of undeath. You’re not sure why you’re alive, you’re definitely not sure how, but you’re certainly not alive in the way you used to be. This, my friends, is the predicament of our protagonist, a nameless wanderer thrust into a world he never asked for, a world he never wanted. Welcome to the story of the Unwanted Undead Adventurer.

This is the tale of a soul who died, a soul who became something else, something more. It’s the story of a journey, a journey not of choice, but of necessity. It’s a story of the undead, the forgotten, the castaways of a world that doesn’t seem to know what to do with them. This might seem a grim tale, but amidst the darkness, there’s a flicker of hope, a spark of defiance that fuels the unliving heart of our hero.
The First Breath of Undeath
Our story begins in a graveyard. Not just any graveyard, a graveyard on the outskirts of a bustling market town, a place where life and death seem to collide. It’s here, amidst the mossy headstones and withered flowers, that our protagonist wakes up, wrapped in damp linen, the smell of decay thick in the air. He remembers nothing – not his name, not his past, not even his life. He only remembers the darkness, the icy grip of death, and now, the inexplicable feeling of being alive, or rather, un-alive.
The world around him is a blur of green and gray. The sky, a gloomy expanse of clouds, looms above him, offering no solace. The ground, perpetually damp, clings to his rotting clothes, a constant reminder of his undead nature. Panic seizes him. He struggles against the confines of the coffin, his stiff limbs groaning in protest. He breaks free, his ragged breaths making a strange rasping sound, more like a groan than a sigh. He stumbles out, the world spinning around him.
The sun, pale and unwelcoming, shines through the skeletal branches of ancient trees. He takes a hesitant step, then another, his senses overwhelmed by the unfamiliar sensation of walking. The world, so familiar, so comforting in his past life, now seems hostile, filled with an oppressive silence broken only by the creaking branches and the rustling leaves.
The weight of his condition dawns on him: his skin, pale and stretched thin over his bones, feels cold and brittle. The stench of decay clings to him like a shroud. His reflection in a nearby puddle is not one of a man, but of a creature, a walking corpse, a spectral shadow of a man who once lived and breathed.
The First Encounter
The first human he sees is an old woman, tending to her garden, her back bent with age. He watches from the shadows, unsure of how to approach her. He’s a creature of the night, a ghost in the daylight, terrified of what he might be.
He remembers, with a strange clarity, the horror that used to grip him when he saw the dead. His heart would race, his blood run cold. And now, he himself is one of them, an object of fear, an abomination. He recoils at the thought, the fear a tangible thing, a chilling presence that wraps around him.
The woman turns, sensing his presence, her eyes widen in terror. She screams, a piercing cry that echoes through the graveyard. She scrambles back, her voice shaking with fear as she cries out for help. He knows then, there’s no hiding; his undead form is a terror to the living.
His heart, a dead organ, doesn’t skip a beat. Yet, there’s a pang of guilt, of regret. He had no intention to cause her fear. He was just trying to understand his new reality. His hands, covered in cracked and decaying flesh, clench into fists. He wants to explain, to tell her he means no harm, but his lips remain silent, unable to form words.
He retreats back into the shadows, leaving the woman trembling, her cry echoing in the stillness of the graveyard. He knows, he’s not welcome here, not in the world of the living. He’s an outsider, a creature of the night, a creature of the dead. He takes his first steps in this new life, this new death, driven by a sense of purpose he doesn’t yet understand.

The Unwanted Undead Adventurer Episode 1
The First Steps In A New World
He walks through the deserted town, the sun now a fiery ball of orange sinking below the horizon. The town sleeps, a quiet and peaceful sanctuary for the weary. He, however, is the only one who cannot find peace. He’s an anomaly, a creature trapped between life and death, unable to find his place in either world. He’s a ghost in a world of living souls, a constant reminder of the fragility of life and the inevitability of death.
He walks for hours, the weight of his condition pressing down on him. He feels the cold, he feels the hunger, he feels the constant reminder that he’s not like other beings. He’s not living, not dead. He is somewhere in between, a gray area of existence, a haunting specter in a world that doesn’t want him.
He finds himself drawn to the outskirts of a forest, the trees casting long shadows, the air thick with the scent of damp leaves and pine needles. He enters the wood, the darkness embracing him like a warm blanket, a comforting embrace that hides him from the world, a world that fears him.
As the moon rises, a pale sliver in the night sky, he finds himself surrounded by creatures of the dark. Goblins, with their mischievous grin and sharp eyes, watch him from the shadows. Wolves, with their piercing howls, circle him at a distance. They are not like the people of the town, they do not fear him, they do not try to understand him. They simply observe, silently judging him.
He knows, for the first time, that he is not alone in this strange existence. He may be unwelcome in the world of the living, but he is not unwelcome in the world of the dead. Maybe, he can find solace here, amongst the creatures of the night, the undead, the forgotten, the shunned. He can become one of them, learn their ways, understand their world, maybe even find a purpose.
The darkness of the forest beckons him – a new beginning, a new journey. The graveyard marked the end of his past life, the forest marks the beginning of his new one. The Unwanted Undead Adventurer has found his starting point, but the journey awaits, and the path ahead is shrouded in darkness and filled with mystery. This is only the beginning…
